Sunburn Cannabis
Sunburn Cannabis was founded in 2022 by Brady Cobb — a Florida-bred attorney whose late father, Clyde Walton “Bill” Cobb, was a documented 1970s-era cannabis smuggler. The Cobb family backstory is part of Sunburn’s deliberate Florida-native brand identity, positioned as a counter to the publicly-traded out-of-state MSO competition.
Sunburn is the most aggressive Florida-native challenger brand. The company acquired the Florida assets of MedMen following its $85 million equity raise — converting MedMen Florida storefronts into Sunburn-branded locations.
Sunburn Miami Beach sits at 1428 Alton Road, in the South Beach 5th-and-Alton MMTC corridor (alongside Trulieve, Surterra, and others).
Pricing structure: Sunburn runs a tiered “Buy More Save More” pricing rather than the deeper one-time discount model of Curaleaf. Veteran, senior, and first-time-patient discounts are available.
The Flowery
The Flowery is one of the largest Florida-native cannabis brands by cultivation footprint. The company operates a 100,000+ square foot indoor cultivation facility in Homestead — among the largest indoor cultivations in the Florida program.
The Flowery North Miami sits at 11900 Biscayne Boulevard, on the Biscayne Green Mile. The Flowery also runs statewide delivery from Miami-Dade. The brand is known for flower-first product focus, with deep cultivar variety and a perception (among Miami-Dade patients) of fresher, higher-terpene flower than some of the publicly-traded competitors.
Promotional structure: The Flowery’s first delivery is free for new patients — a competitive draw against Trulieve and Curaleaf.
Jungle Boys
Jungle Boys is the Miami-Dade outpost of the Los Angeles-grown Jungle Boys brand — a Southern California cannabis-flower company with cult-favorite cultivars (GMO, Kush Mints, Wedding Cake, Animal Mints). Jungle Boys’ Miami Beach store at 6958 Collins Avenue brings the boutique-LA-cannabis-shop aesthetic to Miami Beach.
Jungle Boys flower runs at the higher end of Miami-Dade pricing, with rare cultivars commanding premiums. The brand’s pre-rolls and infused pre-rolls are among the most-watched product launches in the South Florida market.
Ayr Wellness
Ayr Wellness (NEO: AYR; HQ Miami) is one of the major Florida MSOs, headquartered in Miami itself. Ayr operates dispensaries throughout Florida and other markets including Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Nevada, New Jersey, Virginia, Connecticut, Illinois, and Ohio. ⚠️ Ayr’s Florida footprint has gone through repeated restructuring and closure rounds in 2024–2026; Ayr closed 56 of its 66 Florida stores in preparation for Hurricane Milton in October 2024 alone. The Florida-Native vs. MSO Tension
An important Miami-Dade market dynamic: Florida-native brands (Sunburn, The Flowery, Ayr in part) compete on Florida identity, often emphasizing Florida cultivation, Florida ownership, and Florida economic-impact framing. Publicly-traded MSOs (Trulieve, Curaleaf, MÜV/Verano, RISE/GTI) compete on scale, store density, and product range.
Patient choice often divides on this axis. Patients preferring Florida-native brands cite cultivar variety and what they perceive as fresher product; patients preferring MSOs cite store density, predictable inventory, and standing promotional discounts.
Vertical Integration
All Florida MMTCs are vertically integrated by statute under §381.986 — each holding company must cultivate, process, and dispense its own product. This is structurally different from most other state cannabis programs (Colorado, Massachusetts, California, etc.) where cultivation, processing, and retail are separate license categories. Florida vertical integration concentrates the industry into 22 license holders statewide and is a key driver of the limited Miami-Dade product diversity relative to multi-license-tier states.
